Congratulations, you’re a business owner! You have established a business and want to introduce yourself to the world. So now is the perfect time to learn how bad advertising can hurt your business. What can you do to break those habits?
If you’re just starting out, 7 times out of 10 you don’t have a ship load of money to spend on expensive advertising. So what do you do?
You go to your computer, open up Word, Pages or Powerpoint and start inserting all these images and text into the document. You don’t know exactly what you’re doing, but all you know is that you need to get the word out there. When you’re done it looks like an explosion of information, sort of like a child’s project.
Let’s be honest. Sometimes we have the delusion that our future client can look past all the chaos and pin point what we’re trying to say. Unfortunately it confuses them and cheapens your image and brand.
You want to make sure you snag them on the first presentation. You might have to do it on your own for now, but keep in mind that people have very short attention spans. Get to the point quickly and clearly.
For the DIY business owner, there’s a great site called Canva. They allow you to create free, professional looking designs with high quality images that are customizable. Although there are some designs you have to pay for, most are free.
Remember, you’re promoting your business. When using Canva it’s easy to change the elements and text to tell your story, but keep it simple. Make the design speak for you. Also check out my blog 4 Steps to simplify design for quick design tips. Here’s a few ways to help boost your ads.
Hire a designer
If you have money put aside for marketing, pay an expert. They are trained and skilled to maximize your content to effectively show and communicate exactly what you’re saying.
Give quality designs
The better the quality and content in your advertisement, the more power you have in attracting the right clients. Give them a reason to want to work with you. Make them feel you will put the same attention into them as you did in your fabulous marketing that reeled them in.
Choose the right designer
Find a designer that specializes in your particular projects. Not all designers do the same thing. You want to make sure your pick the right one for the job.
For example, my company Zeely Creative specializes in visual brand identity and ad designs for small businesses. However if you need a movie or some type of animation you would find an animator or media company like Blind.
What to take away from how bad advertising can hurt your business
In short, make sure you are creating something spectacular that people want to be a part of. Whether you design the ad yourself or hire a designer, don’t cheat yourself on quality because first impressions speak 1000 words.
